InactiveWhose Number One Challenge – (for the 145 # Division)
No sense talking and bitching about things if you are not going to do something to try and change it. Therefore, let’s get an open invitation to all 145# State Champs and Runner-Ups to try and set an example for the rest of the brackets/teams/coaches/clubs/GHSA to follow. This Sunday can we all meet and have a hard live “practice” with a ref or two and keep score? Why you might ask? Well, why the hell not? Do it.
All wrestlers going to NHSCA’s – think of how great it would be to have a solid partner that matches up with you? All State Champs are invited in for a 7-man random draw, round robin- no seeding. If a class has a state champ that can’t or will not or his dad/coach will not allow him to participate, then the runner-up of that class is invited in as an alternate to represent that specific classification. Say 145# add +5 allowance? Have another +1 or +2 weigh out? This would prevent ballooning up. Or not- just an idea?
A: Cole Laullen, TRIO, Senior, (37-2 record) won by Fall @ 5:03 over
Payton Brooks, TREU, Senior, (25-3)2A: Mitchell Thompson from Social Circle, Junior, (45-7 record) won by decision 5-2 over
Gavin Brady from Elbert County, Sophomore (51-14 record)3A: Nolan Wheeler from Lumpkin County , Sophomore, (31-7) won by fall at 1:05 over
Griffin Green out of Ringgold, Senior (42-4)4A: Jacob Mariakis, RIDG, Junior (16-0) won by major decision of 14-6 over
Chase Seals , TRCO, Senior, (49-5)5A: Charlie Darracott, Buford, Sophomore (43-2) won by decision of 8-3 over
Gabe McDaniel Union Grove, Senior (31-4)6A: Will Formato, Allatoona, Senior, (43-0) won by decision of 8-2 over
Will Evans, RIHI, Junior (46-10)7A: Lucas DeSilva, Collins Hill, Sophomore, (48-2) won by decision of 3-2 over
Rayden Wilder , Camden, Junior, (39-5)Lastly, your thoughts and feedback would be appreciated. This is a rough draft trying to take positive steps in the right direction to where what the demands of the public and wrestlers are heard and responded to. Donations accepted for the refs? Would this keep us out of GHSA red-tape hot water and be allowed? Any club want to host this event? I am going to call Cliff & Peter about The Compound but understand that is not geographically friendly to most of these wrestlers.
Any ideas,
Ricky Daracott

InactiveHey Tarzan,
Where is it gonna happen? Cmpd? TWC? Canton? Sounds like a wrestlefest in the making! Can we add kids from several weight classes?February 13, 2018 at 5:36 pm #10030Anonymous
Inactive3A Griffin Green out of Ringgold, Senior (42-4) would not lose 3-4 to same wrestler. Got caught..

InactiveGreen definitely got caught. Biggest upset of the weekend in AAA.

InactiveWt Allowance? Whatever it would take to get the wrestlers there. Say +5? +7? whatever.
How many have responded? Only You and tdgator1. Nary a bite across the board.Where is it gonna happen? Cmpd? TWC? Canton? We would drive wherever it took to get all parties there.
Sounds like a wrestlefest in the making! That’s the idea- yes! If people don’t respond then they are just not into it.
Can we add kids from several weight classes? Hell yeah – get all the state champs and runner up there!

InactiveI don’t know Griffin Greene at all – and don’t agree or disagree about the biggest upset of the weekend- but the Lumpkin County kid Nolan Wheeler has paid his dues on the USA circuit for over a decade now. I would have loved to watch that match!

InactiveGreen was up 7-1 a minute into the match when he got caught. Gotta love how humble Wheeler is after the pin. Like my old high school coach used to always say. “Act like ya been there before”. Wheeler as a prime example of this statement

InactiveI figured this challenge was issued by someone affiliated with Griffin Green. Great wrestler, got caught. Wheeler is a very good wrestler as well who wrestles as hard as anyone. I’d say there are only a handful, if that, of 145s in AAA who could have gotten to their stomach from Greens armbar, which enabled Wheeler to extend the match and catch him.

InactiveThe GISA 145# champion would have been up for the challenge too 🙂 His name is Tyler Lillard. Please include me, his mother, on any correspondence if this happens: 217-840-0909. Thank you.
