InactiveAfter reading SnapOn’s post “Rankings 1st Edition” I couldn’t help myself, I had to break it down by weight Class to really see who was on top. Lets go weight class by weight class and see which State Classification (1A-7A) would really be on top in the 2017-18 wrestling season.
106…Caden McCray (Woodlands-5A) dec against Nathan Orum (Camden Co-7A)
113…Logan Ashton (Buford- 5A) dec against Nicolas Krug (Camden Co-7A)
120…Kyle Gollhofer (Woodlands-5A) dec Nick Masters (Woodward Academy-4A)
126…Vincent Manella (Woodward Academy-4A) dec Brandon Orum (Camden Co-7A)
132…Tyler Hunt (Sonoraville 3A) dec Bradley Bitting (North Paulding-7A)
138…Gavin Smith (Archer 7A) dec Dawson Bates (Jefferson-4A)
145…Rayden Wilder (Camden Co. 7A) pins Lucas DeSilva (Collins Hill-7A)
152…Gavin Kane (Cambridge 6A) dec Will Formato (Allatoona 6A)
160…Justin Ruffin (Union Grove 5A) dec Drew Eller (Evans-6A)
170…David Key (Brookwood 7A) dec Chase Forrester (Commerce-1A)
182…Gabriel Lee (Brookwood 7A) dec Braden Johnson (Creekview-6A)
195…Matthew Key (Brookwood 7A) pins Knox Allen (Commerce-1A)
220…Tomari Fox (Collins Hill 7A) dec Tripp Breeden Cass-5A
285…Paul Robinson (Breman 3A) pins Nick Markus (Alpharetta-6A)
For simple math:
(2pts for 1st place)
(1pt for 2nd place)
Classification Final Score:
1st Place: 7A with 17pts
2nd Place: 5A with 9pts
3rd Place: 6A with 6pts
4th Place tie between 3A & 4A with 4pts
5th Place: 1A with 2pts
6th Place: 2A with 0
There you have it folks, in 2017-18, 7A is toughest Classification in GA. With that said, 7A Camden County having the most wrestlers in the finals and surprisingly 7A Brookwood having the most State Champions with 3. I don’t care if Little Johnny made the list either so go ahead, talk dirty to me, I like it.December 14, 2017 at 6:08 pm #8629Anonymous
InactiveI see what you did there you manipulated weights (put kids in wrong weight classes) to make sure Larger classes were going to win the weight class no matter what. 10 out of 14 weight classes have 7A wrestlers in it? A couple kids move weight classes and win the ones you predict to lose, your theory is shot! Sure wish there was a one Classification Tournament to really see.

InactiveI’ll bite. I agree on the vast majority of your selections. The ones that I think would be tough calls and could flip on you would be at 132, 138, 145 and 160. The feature match of the whole fantasy “dual” you have created would have to be Ruffin vs Eller. Both those boys have mad technique, experience and heart and are just physical freaks. I think Bitting, Bates and Dasilva have the skills to win those bouts as long as they were just one match and not a 2 out of 3. A lot of those matchups wouldn’t happen because kids won’t be going those weights by the time state happens and you know how kids (mainly their parents and coaches) will duck a challenge and either cut or go up rather than go head to head with a state title potentially on the line. Good take overall though on the landscape based on the rankings in my opinion. I would love to get a look at that 160lb matchup though. That has Midwest feature match written all over it with the lights down low and a little Lunatic Fringe playing in the background.

InactiveReally Cameltoe? Which weights are you referring to? I tried to be open minded about weight classes.

InactiveHow long did it take you to think of that abovegroundchump? 126 – 220 There are several kids on the list that will be down a weight for state i would assume that you could figure it out since you named the kids. I don’t like to name kids that’s not my style. I do however like to talk team match ups!!!!

InactiveReally? I wasn’t that off. Did Little Johnny not make the cut? Go pay yours sons Tuition and keep it real Snowflake.

InactiveOh Underchump so you know who I am. I got your snowflake RIGHT HERE and yes you are way off. Little Johnny never makes the list he will just go about his business. We are thankful for the opportunity and don’t need to be on any list. Oh by over 7 kids are at the wrong weight
December 14, 2017 at 6:48 pm #8635Caden is 113.
But to answer your question, 5A is the toughest classification – with or without a nifty little chart. 😉

InactiveVery good hypothetical match-ups. Unfortunately, you missed a few kids and the weights are way off.
However, I will play along106…Nathan Orum (Camden 7A) vs Eli Knight (Sonoraville 3A)
113…Logan Ashton (Buford- 5A) vs Caden McCrary (Woodland 5A)
120…Kyle Gollhofer (Woodlands-5A) vs Nick Masters (Woodward Academy-4A)
126…Vincent Manella (Woodward Academy-4A) vs Brandon Orum (Camden Co-7A)
132…Tyler Hunt (Sonoraville 3A)vs Bradley Bitting (North Paulding-7A)
138… Nick Stonecheck(Buford 5A) vs Dawson Bates (Jefferson-4A)
145…Rayden Wilder (Camden Co. 7A) vs Charlie Daracot(Buford-5A)
152…Justin Ruffin (Union Grove 5A) vs Will Formato (Allatoona 6A)
160…Cody Cochran(Woodland 5A) vs Drew Eller (Evans-6A)
170…David Key (Brookwood 7A) vs Chase Forrester (Commerce-1A)
182…Braden Johnson (Creekview-6A) vs Crump(Gilmer-4A)
195…Matthew Key (Brookwood 7A) vs Knox Allen (Commerce-1A)
220…Tomari Fox (Collins Hill 7A) dec Tripp Breeden Cass-5A
285…Paul Robinson (Bremen 3A) vs Seven Richards(Cass-5A)Finalist:
7A- 7
6A- 3
5A- 9
4A- 4
3A- 3
2A- 0
1A- 2I believe 5A is the toughest classification.

InactiveBetter look at the matchups with regard to their likely weights to end the season, SnapOn! I think we might see a few of these “dream” matches at Buford or Coastal Clash next weekend based on where these teams are committed to go.

InactiveI like it. Let’s do a Open Highschool tournament the week after state. Most of these kids would attend as they would be training for Nationals in March. Must be placed in any of your years in Highschool. +3 lbs It’s been talked about for many year can somebody pull this off? Or us this wishful thinking
December 15, 2017 at 6:24 pm #8645We have an all-classification tourney every May….
December 15, 2017 at 7:40 pm #8647Anonymous
InactiveJason- i can’t believe it took you that long to respond to the all classification tournament ?.
As for having a all class folk style tournament- it won’t ever happen.
1) not many of them can or would be willing to make eight again
2) you would have to have an allowance of some sort and then you would have kids cutting to the lower weight. If you made them wrestle the weight they did at state, you would have little Johnny’s parents complaining that it’s not far their little Johnny didn’t cut.
3) the GHSA won’t let the HS coaches coach so they won’t push as hard to get their kids to wrestle.
4) you think 99% of single A would show up? “Did you see the three time state champ from the GA Culinary School get teched by the state champ from 4A?Would be great to see. Invite the top 4 from each classification. That would give us a 128 man bracket and should be able to be completed in three days using 10 mats.

InactiveSnapBack, I respect your theory but when you say way off and I see two, maybe three that might possibly drop weight classes, my inner redneck kicks in and I think of Jeff Foxwothy’s famous line. No pun intended. My logic was Ruffin’s a senior, why would he drop a pound in GA competition unless his team needed him too. As for your pencil-ins at 138 & 145, they were both in my semi finals and they were all over time matches. As for your 182 pencil-in over Gabriel Lee, it really makes me questions your wrestling knowledge. Again, Crump a Senior at a weak weight class, why would he drop? Either way, go smoke another one and bring the sauce when you come back to the table.

InactiveLet me drop some knowledge on you playa-
Ruffin is at 152
Crump is at 182Sitting here at McCallie, there are a couple of kids that really have impressed me.
Pedraza is the real deal.
Burtick flies under the radar but the kid wins
Hunt seems to be getting better and better
McCrary does not Wrestle like a freshman
The kid that wrestled Cam Johnson is a monster - AuthorPosts
