InactiveMr DG…..you have posted here quite a while and typically are fairly spot on ( TYPICALLY …LOL ) and I am the first to ALWAYS say in wrestling there is NO excuses. With that said, you may take a peek at the starting lineups before digging to hard…….Buford was WAY off there starting lineup. I Have no doggie in the fight as we were at The Kyle …….

InactiveDefinitely have to give Kudos to the Redskins bunch. I don’t think I would have said way off of their starting lineup but it may have been enough points to close the gap. Enjoyed watching the last rounds today after I drove over. Took lots of notes. Great close matches at a lot of weights. Especially at 138 and 145. And the 160 lb division was something special. The kid can score like nobody’s beeswax! McCrary and Golhofer were unchallenged at their weights. The 126 was a dogfight and there was definitely a freshman bracket buster that debuted in that one in a big way. Great event and lots of fun to watch today. Worth the drive.

Both your boys looked really good and had a great showing.
Congrats to them.

InactivePump the breaks chief. When the new rankings come out after Christmas, I will be moving Camden back to the # 1spot. I might put Camden’s number two team in the top 5. Make no mistakes, if Buford had Ashton, Darracott and their 182 in the lineup they would have won the tournament. All three of those cats make the finals and it’s not debatable.
As for Social Circle, they are definitely better than I gave them credit for. Little Johnny can wrestle, they aren’t Camden, Buford or Jefferson good but they are solid.
Mr. Brewer what did think about the $h!t show that went on at Donny’s tournament today? Wish I would stuck around for the finals but I wanted to catch some of the Buford tournament.

InactiveThe other top teams I saw looked pretty good. I understand BUFORD was missing kids but SC wrestled well from top to bottom and took the top spot. Congrats to all of the champs!

InactiveMissing Ashton definitely hurt. However, at this point in the season, if you are leaving multiple weight classes open in your home tournament, you’re probably not the best team in the state.
You know who didn’t have a problem getting 14 wrestlers to stay in a hotel 4 hours from home, a couple days before Christmas? Valdosta…and Valdosta almost outpointed Buford as a result. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Valdosta described as an elite wrestling program, yet there they were, right next to Buford.
Which brings me to Camden County, who had over thirty boys staying in a hotel, 5 hours from home a couple days before Christmas for a wrestling tournament. If Camden was missing their three best wrestlers, they would have filled those slots with capable backups and still come close to doubling the score of the second place team at the Coastal Clash (which was a 2017 SC state champion). I suspect the Coastal Clash was a little less competitive than Buford’s tournament. However, depth is why Camden is the better team…not just the better overall program, but the better team in this specific season. Buford hasn’t had a complete lineup for a month now. That’s excuseable when you’re asking people to fly their kids to Kansas City, but at a certain point you have to simply say Buford is a shallow team with an incomplete lineup. It is an inherent characteristic of Buford wrestling this year.

InactiveNext man up. Ranking aren’t normally composed of the “best potential team”. SC deserves their credit finishing ahead of Buford and Woodland in a deep tournament.

InactiveWell Snappy, like you I left prior to the Finals. My phone was however blowing up giving me the play by play.
I had 2 coaches from other teams call me who watched it all play out and both of them basically said the same, Commerce may get a bad wrap sometimes but they seemed to agree we did more defending than starting. Now….regardless…..in front of kids, its just never good EVER ! Both coaches quickly got together and agreed to flip a coin for the winner, we lost – loaded the bus and they went to -C-Town. OVER !Now, I do think Social deserves credit. They can only wrestle who you put out in front of them. THEY WON !! I was more commented on DG statement of Buford#1 comment.
December 24, 2017 at 3:28 pm #8711So, going off the arguments posted above, Woodland finishing above Buford at their tourney AND above Camden at the Danny Byron Invitational matters.
Just wanna make sure I understand…

InactiveA) Official scores weren’t kept at the Danny Byron Invitational
B) If you add the unofficial day 1 and day 2 scores together, then Camden had the highest point total at the tournament.
C) The reason why Woodland outpointed Camden on Day 2 is because over half of their wrestlers were drawn into the middle and bottom pools of wrestlers (based on their day 1 performances). Every single one of Camden’s wrestlers were drawn into the top pool of wrestlers which means Camden wrestlers only faced the top third of wrestlers in the tournament. Essentially all Camden wrestlers placed top 6 if you look at it in terms of a normal traditional tournament. Woodland had a bunch of wrestlers wracking up easy points on day 2 because they were in the brackets composed of average (middle third) and bad (bottom third) wrestlers. Basically, only 6 out of 16 Woodland wrestlers finished in the top 6 (gold bracket on day 2) compared to 16 out 16 Camden wrestlers.

InactiveSimpletons, this isn’t common core math. Camden County is the best team in Ga and their B team would keep it close against the likes of Buford and Jefferson. I don’t care if you like it, I just care that your tuition is paid in time.
