InactiveIdk about the other small classification sectionals, but I know there were some wars in AAA to qualify for the state tournament. Yet I look at some sectionals from bigger classifications and I see kids getting byes in the conso rounds while in small schools its win or go home that round. Overall I think the 8 man brackets makes the state tournament much tougher and allows for nothing but quality matches at the tournament. There would be no cake walk brackets for anyone. Also would be much cheaper and would help avoid taking this thing back to high schools. If you look at the brackets for this weekend in smaller schools you will see some brackets with no kids with more than 8 or 9 losses. Looking in the bigger classification you see kids with losing records. If we are keeping those 16 man brackets just so more kids get the chance to make it then we needs to be fair and go 16 across the board, or we can man up, and cut this thing down to 4 or 5 classifications. I will just keep living in my dream world because we all know GHSA doesn’t care.

InactiveWell said CookHornet! Totally agree. In most region tournaments for the larger classes its only like 4-6 teams. Now thats a joke!

InactiveI happen to coach at the same school I graduated from. When we were AA we were 16 man bracket. Our area was very tiny. It still meant something to make it to state. Now coaching here we are in a bigger classification but an 8 man brackets. Huge area, Have to drive 4 HOURS just to get to our area tournament! 4 HOURS!!! Means so much more to the kids to make it to state though. It is an actual accomplishment to call yourself a state qualifier. It’s tough as hell but the toughness gives you something to be proud of. Now what we smaller classifications do miss out on is our young guys getting to the dance to get the experience and to see what they work so hard for and why they need to work even harder

InactiveAgreed that it should be 8 man bracket in all classifications, but record is completely relative to who you wrestle. Teams such as Buford who traveled to Kansas City and Ohio this year have wrestled much harder competition and most kids have 3+ losses, while teams like Jefferson have half their roster undefeated.

InactiveAn 8 man bracket with six placers is ridiculous.
